Stainless Steel Butterfly mounted on a concrete obelisk with mild steel vortex detail at the base.
The idea behind this sculpture was purely the fact that there was an abundance of butterflies around in this year, I wanted to give it a monumental feel like something from a godzilla film or similar and the mild steel detail at the bottom of the post is representational of the vortex created by every beat of the butterfly's wings.

I am interested much in totem animals so this fragment is about a butterfly:
Transmutation, Dance of Joy
The butterfly is the symbol of change, joy and color.
It is the symbol of the soul.
They remind us that life is a dance,
not to take things quite so seriously.
They also remind us to get up and move.
Dance brings the sweetness of life.
Butterflies bring color and joy to your life.
Look at them and remember what joy is in your life,
if its a lot or a little, it is still joy.
They teach us that growth and transformation does not have to traumatic;
it can occur gently, sweetly, joyfully.
If a butterfly totem has shown up in your life,
make note of the most important issues in your life,
and see what needs to be changed.

I have creative plans to realise the idea of totems in photography and fashion.
Steel Totems could be a great collection :-)

I originally did a multi-coloured mount for this piece hoping that I could generate the colours in the wings through the reflection, unfortunately I didnt like the end result of the coloured stand so went with a plain one instead but this is such a reflective piece as you so rightly say I think the concept would of worked.
